“You didn’t respect our licensing rules”

If you have been following Disqus comments that happen at Open Classifieds then you may have noticed some cases where I am giving this answer to a person who created a classifieds website using the free version of the software and removed the license information from the footer.

Over time we have written down the domains for those websites and made a list of all of those who removed the free license, some of them are no longer functioning while others are still in business. But the main idea is that they didn’t have any consideration to the creators of the software even though we state clearly at our website how the license can be removed.

I will list the websites that we have out about (with no-follow links), there could be more than those websites but those are the ones we were able to see, in most of the cases we were actually contacted by site owners for support purposes:

  1. Pamusika.net
  2. Keralareal.in
  3. classifieds.paibkk.com
  4. Drum-Stock.fr
  5. oldshopi.com
  6. sellcues.com
  7. Pamusika.net
  8. milcomprasmilvntas.com
  9. Jaldibech.tk

But on the other hand there is something that is not being said here, it’s the importance of maintaining the product brand; let’s say you got a giveaway from CocaCola, would you remove their logo from the gift? I wouldn’t personally do that because I appreciate getting a gift from someone and I respect their work, and I’m sure if a CocaCola employee sees what I’ve done with the gift they wouldn’t be happy about that.

The same thing can be applied to Open Classifieds, of course we’re not a multi-billion company – for now :) – but you can still see that when these users who removed their licenses are trying to contact us for support regarding errors in their sites they’re not getting any help. And the fact is that if they really make a big success with their website they might face some serious issues that could risk their whole business.

If you don’t already know, Open Classifieds has been alive for almost 6 years and it has improved a lot during those six years, so it does hurt our feelings when we see the product that we offer for free is not being respected by those who are using it and benefiting from it.

Finally, we do want to give our gratitude to those who did respect our license conditions and are still using the software to its full potential, and those are the ones whom we always want to hear from and help push their businesses forward, so if you’re having any issue with the software please post it at our forums or open a support ticket and we’ll be here to help.
