As you know at Open Classifieds we are in love with Open Source Software, we live for it!
We develop tools and release them as Free Open Source Software, we also use other amazing tools that help us develop, or that we directly integrate with our software. Without these FOSS / Free tools we could not have developed Open Classifieds, the best classifieds software!
In this list you will find almost all the tools we use and a brief description, we hope it’s useful for you as it is for us!
Development Tools
- Ubuntu – Our servers and my local machine works on ubuntu, since 2009 I do not use any other OS besides Android ;)
- Apache – Our web server, not the fastest, but probably the most popular of all.
- PHP – Without PHP none of this would be possible!! PHP is the language we use to develop everything we use.
- Siege – to calculate the speed of our sites, great tool.
- MySQL – The most popular open source database, maybe not my favorite but really easy to find at any shared hosting, works really good, stable and with great community. We also use MySQL workbench and phpmyadmin
- Redis – We use it to deliver super fast statistics, in love with it. The combo of MySQL + Redis is super nice :D
- GIT – We use it as SCM great tool, best I’ve tried so far, we host our code at github.
- Meld – For comparing files and folders. Great merge tool.
- Keepass – Not a development tool, but It’s a must have tool to save your passwords securely.
- FileZilla – FTP client to easily move files to clients.
- Chromium – the open source web browser, like google chrome but OS.
