Open Classifieds is a very flexible software with plenty of features and it can serve for many purposes. It could be used as a job board website, real estate sell, company directory or… whatever you can think of. There are countless possibilities. Just to prove the point in this and next blog posts I will show you some examples how unusual ideas can come to life using our script.
Let’s start with an interesting example of how OC script is used for a very specific purpose that you would probably never guess… Beekeepingonline.co.uk is a site dedicated to selling of everything what is related to bees and honey and informing about upcoming shows and events for this branch in the UK.
As Andrew, who is running the site explains, beekeeping is enjoying a surge in popularity in the UK, but there was no site specifically designed for beekeepers to buy and sell honey bees online (Ebay does not allow it).
During the swarming season many associations are overrun with bee swarms which could be sold to help them free up space and raise needed funds, as nearly all beekeeping associations in the UK are charities. Beekeepers did not have a anywhere to officially sell on their excess bees after they had performed artificial swarms. I therefore looked for a simple platform that would allow beekeepers and bee related business to sell anything bee related – Open Classifieds fitted the bill perfectly.
I am not a techie person yet I have found Open Classifieds to be extremely easy to administer and that along with it’s professional look is why I chose Open Classifieds.
The site was started in May 2012 and since then it has received over 100,000 organic page views and plenty of positive feedback from users showing that there is definitely a need for a site like this in the UK. Considering the fact that due to other commitments Andrew hasn’t invested much time in promoting the site yet, gaining this audience is already a great achievement for a first timer. With a little promoting on various beekeeping websites/magazines and by emailing all the local beekeeping divisions in the UK the site aims to become the most popular Beekeeping Website in the UK by the end of 2013. Open Classifieds team is crossing fingers for a success of this outstanding initiative!
