With the tools we have on the web right now starting an online business and specifically a classifieds website is very easy but there are many misconceptions about starting a classifieds website and I will go through the 5 points I think should be at the top. And here they are:

1- Everything can be automated

Of course starting a classifieds website using a fully ready classifieds software or a script gives you a lot of automation for many tasks you will need in your site but it will not automate everything, you still need to create content, manage social media channels and try your best to increase your site’s popularity in your sector of focus.

2- You will start making money overnight

I always say that a classifieds website is a great investment when placed in the right market at the right time but the effort, time and money you invested in this site will not return to you in one or two days, it could take a lot of time before your classifieds website starts bringing you money. But when you wait patiently while doing the needed steps you could be getting a huge return on your initial investment.

3- You don’t have to focus on a niche

I hear this a lot “I will start a classifieds site for Asia” or any other geographic location, of course I’m not saying that it wont work, it could but it will most likely not work unless if you have some really big investors funding your project.

My advice here is to focus on a certain niche and start from there, get in touch with the dealers/suppliers in that niche and get them to post on your site this will increase user trust in your site and give you extra traffic as well as extra promotion from the dealers themselves.

4- You can manage it part-time

At the beginning you will need to spend some time reading and learning about everything you need to do, so the period from the date of inception until the actual launch will depend a lot on how much time you want to spend on doing that. After the launch until the point where your site has some regular visitors you need to spend a lot of time on building brand awareness and reaching out to potential promotion channels. And I agree with you that it can still be done part-time but after you have regular visitors and your site kicks off that’s when you will start considering focusing more on the classifieds site you created and turn it into your best source of revenue especially with the client contacts and orders that you will need to take care of.

But don’t worry you will still be able to work from wherever you are at home, at the office or even at the beach!

5- Having a blog is not necessary

Lately when I’m checking a company online and to see how valid they are I just go to their blog and see what they’re adding there, I ask myself are they experts in their industry? or are they just hiring an outsider to write for them? but when I see that a company doesn’t have a blog at all it would affect my decision in continuing to do business with them or no.

It’s not only my opinion, it’s also now essential to have a blog to create content constantly, share your experience with your users, get some positive feedback (for spiritual support) and improve your ranking in search engines.

Remember that those were the five myths that I thought should be on top and I’m sure there can be many more that I didn’t mention here, remember to keep up with our news because we’re bringing you some cool things soon.
