Okay when you read the title of the article you would think “what does that have to do with classifieds websites?” but I can tell you that I was actually thrilled when I read the news that Quikr actually pulled it off and used the upcoming Diwali festival to their advantage.

Quikr is one of India’s largest classifieds websites which I mentioned earlier at another classifieds news post, and I was keeping up with their content marketing campaign which is giving their users some tips on online shopping using classifieds.

On the upcoming Diwali festival Quikr came up with the idea to spend their promotional budget on something different, with a challenge that gives their users money in a way, increases traffic to their website and builds links helping their off-page optimization. I simply think that the idea is brilliant if it works.

How does their campaign work?

Okay so they’re giving an amount of money to anyone who uses their website to buy something and writes a blog post about their experience. Once they check the post and see that it meets their conditions (having the backlink to quikr and the blogging platform) they would refund the person who wrote the blog post.

So practically they’re spending their promotional campaign budget on users buying things at their website, it may seem like another way to buy traffic to your site but the trick here is that they’re getting quality links back to their website which is worth a lot in SEO terms.

Although the campaign is not over yet and we still don’t know if it will work as they expected or not, but I believe that it would have a positive effect either way, we’ve seen the two giants OLX and Quikr competing over their India market share for a while now and this seems it will keep going for a while but at least we can take some useful pointers from their competition.

This tells you that your classifieds website can benefit from any national or international events and sometimes if you don’t participate in that event you could be missing out on a very good opportunity to increase traffic.

So do you think this is a good strategy by Quikr? or do you have another strategy in mind that you could implement using national or international events to the benefit of your site? post your answers in the comment section below and
